As you will be aware by now we are getting daylight savings in Western Australia this weekend and this will affect your computer’s time.
It is important that the computer’s time is correct, particularly if you are operating a server, accounting package, or some other large business package.
Microsoft has released a patch which will automatically modify the time on your computers. This patch will need to be applied some time before 3 December, if possible, on all your computers.
It is located at:
At this location are 3 files to
download. You need to download, and install, the first one, ie the (30K) i386
version.
The installation is really quick, and there is little feedback to tell you that its installed correctly. If you are not sure it does not really matter if it’s installed twice.
Now for some specifics:
It is important to set aside some time to update all your PCs at the same time (particularly if you are late and doing this after 3 December. On some systems you will not be able to log in if the difference in time between the local PC and the server is too great.
On the first working day after 3 December you will need to double check that all systems are showing the correct time, and manually alter it if it is wrong. You should also email me, and depending on your system, we may be able to get the time to automatically update from the internet.
Please note that we are asking for your assistance with this since we have too many clients to go around to all of you before 3 December. However, we are aware that some will prefer us to do this for you. Please email me asap if you require this to be done. You will understand that we will be billing appropriately for this work!
Double check on the clients if they have ticked "Autotmatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes" (double click on your time - bottom right conner of the desktop, click on Time Zone TAB) after applying this patch.
